Chapter 13 - Saeko the thief

Estimated reading time: ±5 minutes

I look at Drake and Ray, we nod our heads and we get out of the vehicle wearing our hoods to hide our faces. Now the robbery happens. Ray puts his hand on the door and opens it, Drake goes first to knock the guards unconscious and keep only one employee still conscious, I take care of the few civilians and tie their wrists, ankles and gag them. In less than 30 seconds, there is only one operational employee left and Drake makes sure he can't trigger the alert. Ray walks up to the employee and puts two fingers on his foreheads. The look becomes neutral in a few seconds.

Ray: You're gonna disable the cameras and the alarm system, right?
Employee: Yeah.

The employee goes in and Ray makes sure he's in control. Drake smiles at me, everything was going fine. I start placing people side by side, Drake finishes cuffing and disarms the guards. That way we'll be safe. Ray comes back with the employee.

Ray: You want to open the safe?
Employee: Yeah, I got it.

Ray's on his way back to the vault with the employee in his grip.

Drake: I'll get the car and put it in the back.
Saeko: Make it quick.
Drake: Very funny.

Drake goes in and I'm alone to watch a dozen people. I sigh and look out for a short while, the windows are tinted so the only way anyone can see us doing it is if someone comes to open the door. I still keep an eye on the door just in case. Drake ended up coming back in, went out the back door.

Saeko: Lock the door to keep civilians out.
Drake: Okay, I thought you did that.

So he goes and the civilians look at me scared. I give them a little sadistic smile.

Saeko: If one of them wants to be his hero, I'll bleed him out in a second, got it? ~
Drake: I'll check on Ray.
Saeko: I don't need to know what you're going to do, we all have our tasks.
Drake: Tsss.

Drake goes and Ray comes back with the employee. He puts his hand on his shoulder.

Ray: If anyone tries anything, to fight back or run away, you scream.
Employee: Got it. Drake: Come on, let's get what we need and get out of here.
Saeko: Yep!

We fill the bags without really counting the bundles of money, but I can estimate that there will be a lot of money, we'll easily reach seven numbers.

Drake: We leave nothing behind.
Saeko: I wouldn't get down on my hands and knees to pick up the cash on the floor.
Ray: Yeah, we can take what's on the shelves and go...
Drake: Well, never mind.

Drake starts rushing back and forth between the car and the trunk to carry the bags. He's going faster than before, I don't know if that's normal. Maybe he's been practicing. He comes back and grabs the last bag I just zipped up.

Drake: All right, come on, let's get out of here.
Saeko: Yeah, we had all the right number of bags.

Let's run back to the car and get out of here. We take our hoods off as soon as we get out of the alley where Drake had put the car. We left before the police even arrived because we passed a platoon of cars two minutes away by car. They were clearly headed towards the bank. I can't help but smile.

Saeko: It's clearly not the same feeling as stealing from a single person.
Drake: It didn't feel like it was the first time you'd done it, though.
Saeko: It was.
Drake: Good, then you managed.
Saeko: Thank you~
Ray: I'm exhausted.
Drake: You're going to have to practice so that you can stay in control longer and for more people at the same time.
Ray: Yep, I got that figured out.
Drake: Just to give you an idea, we could have had them fill the bags for us, take them to the truck and all that, no problem.

Ray put his head down a little bit, he was imagining what he could have done with a little more control over his power.

Saeko: Hey Ray, don't listen to the grumpy old man, first you have to get stronger.
Ray: I will! I've gotten much stronger since I've been with you guys.

I smile at him, I have to say that his devotion will only be stronger if we keep a trusting relationship with him.

A little less than an hour later, we arrive at the place where we abandon the truck, we change vehicles and I take the wheel for the rest of the way, thirty minutes later, we arrive at the hangar where we'll put the bags down. Drake looks at all this with a kid's smile.

Saeko: Stop looking at it like it's a girl, we have to count it.
Drake: I'm not looking at it like it's... anyway, I'm going to count the bills.

I take out a machine to count in hundreds and put it on the table.

Saeko: Sorry chief~ I don't trust you to count all this stuff~
Drake: Are you serious? You think I'd keep any of it to myself?
Saeko: Everybody's going to keep money for themselves, that's obvious! Even Ray is going to do it, I can already hear him cooking it up in his head.

Ray takes a step back.

Ray: Shit...
Saeko: Actually, I'm not surprised by either of you, you're not thinking long-term yet. And I don't blame you. That's normal. I just want us to settle up before everyone gets their share.
Drake: Suit yourself. I'm gonna go shower and get some rest.

I'll turn to Ray.

Saeko: Are you going to help me or are you going to sleep like the big sulky guy?
Ray: I'll help, yes.

Ray comes and sits down next to me and I explain to him how it all works. The importance of having packets of bills with the same amount and how to place the boxes and what to write on them. Ray helps me for a good hour before going to bed, the sun had been down for a while. Four hours later, the account is there. We're looking at over $5.3 million.
